Car Building Clinics
2008 Car building
clinics are tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 9th and
Sunday April 6th. Clinics will run from 1-4pm.
Dates for the car clinics are listed to the right...the
Car Clinics are held at the
Bump Shop in Quincy, Illinois. Racers can bring their cars with them to the clinics to get assistance in assembling them,
however, you MUST notify us in advance if you will be needing
assistance in building your car. In addition, ANY
materials (including your car) brought to the Bump Shop must be
taken home with you that night.
The clinics are designed as a working classroom to encourage
and teach racers and their advisors how to use basic tools and
build their derby racer. The entrants are expected to share in
the construction of their car with their advisor.
We will be conducting more than one clinic and have
knowledgeable people guide you through steps of constructing the
car, car alignments, and weight balancing. We will also take
this opportunity to ensure you are updated on the rules and
specifications. All Derby cars are required to be checked for
safety issues and be updated, as necessary, to meet construction
guidelines for the current race year.
Building the Stock and/or Super Stock cars is not difficult and
generally can be assembled within a few hours. This will
be a learning experience as well as a fun time for everyone.

We will start the clinic with a short promotional talk about the
Quincy Breakfast Optimist Soap Box Derby program and the coming
events. The construction committee members and their assignments
for helping the car builders will be explained. The committee
will explain the important dates such as the race date and other
local information including the car inspection date and other clinic dates.
The clinics will focus on the construction of the Stock and
Super Stock divisions. Subjects for the clinics may also
include::
· Stock and Super Stock Plans and Assembly
· Weighting, balancing and aligning the car.
· Vinyl application and painting a Super Stock.
· What happens on race day? (Tips from previous
champions)
· Driving Skills
Please refer to this website for the latest
race information. Our local race times, intentions and
conditions of operation are subject to transform to accommodate
the number of race participants on race day. Comments are
