Registration
How do I register to race?
E-mail us to request a registration form.  Return your registration form, entry fee of $50.00, photo, biography and a copy of the racer's birth certificate.

When do I turn in my registration?
You have to turn it in your registration by May 1st.  We strongly suggest, and would appreciate it if, you submit your registration as early as possible (this helps us out a lot).

I'm from Texas, can I race in this race?
I'm sorry but you can not.  A racer must race in the city closest to his permanent residence.  For example, if you live in Houston and Houston has a AASBD Race, you must race in that one.  You can go to www.aasbd.org to find what racers are scheduled in your area.  Some exceptions may apply as deemed by race committee.

What does my registration fee go towards?
First, it pays the expenses of putting on the derby, i.e, for security, hay bales, portable restrooms, etc.  Additionally, monies received will be used for the mission of the Quincy Breakfast Optimist Club, a not-for-profit organization.  To find out more about what we do, visit www.quincyboc.org.

Racing
How fast do the cars go?
Past years some cars got up to about 30 mph.  You can expect anywhere from 20mph to 22mph.

How many times am I guaranteed to race?
You are guaranteed a minimum of three races down the hill - 2 of which will be competitive.

How can I make my car faster?
Do your homework.  Some helpful sites include www.aasbd.org and www.ndr.org.  Get to the library or check on the internet as there are several local Soap Box Derby Websites...  However, please make sure you are constructing your car in accordance to the 2007 All American Soap Box Derby Rules.  If you have a specific question, just e-mail us and ask.

Cars
What are the kits made out of?
The top shell of the kits are made out of a polyurethane material...kind of like recycled milk jugs.  The rest of the kit is wood and nuts and bolts.

Can I help my son/daughter put the car together?
You bet you can and we want you to!  We strongly urge that you let him/her perform the actual assembly as much by themselves as possible.  Lean over their shoulder as much as you want...but use the time to build their knowledge, self confidence and more.  The car clinics we offer will give you a wealth of insight on how to assemble the cars.

How long does it take to put a car together?
If this is your first time, it will take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours to assemble the car.

How much does a car kit cost?
The stock cars sell for $585 and the Super Stock for $615.00.

Car Building Clinics
Do I need to bring anything to the clinics?
Depends - if you want to just come out and see what a car looks like or just to get some ideas, then no, just bring yourself.  If you have your car kit and you want to assemble it at the clinic, then you will first need to let us know you are coming and then also you will need to bring your own tools needed.  All materials/supplies brought to the Bump Shop on that night will be taken home with you on that night.

When are the clinics?
In 2008, the Car Clinics will be held on the following Sundays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm:  March 9th and April 6th.  All will be conducted at the Bump Shop.

Vendors
Can I sell (food, products, my organization, etc.) at your event?
Please contact us.  We strive to ensure we do not have competing vendors at our event.  Our vendors in the past helped ensure our racers and fans stayed hydrated and full throughout the event.  We want race day to be a fun filled day for racers and spectators.  This is a family event and as such, we will use our judgment as to what is being sold or advertised at the event.
