71st All American Soap Box Derby Championship

Going to Akron, Ohio!  -   July 21st to July 26th

One winner from each division in our local race will have the opportunity to go to Akron, Ohio for the 71st All American Soap Box Derby Championship.  At the championship race, our racers will compete amongst more than 500 racers from 5 different countries.  Racers are treated to a variety of events such as a minor league ball game, a day at a water park, winners ceremonies and much more!  In the past, racers have had the opportunity to meet NASCAR drivers and a chance to win scholarship prizes.  The most up-to-date information about the week at Akron can be found at http://www.aasbd.org.

Akron is very exciting but it is important to know your responsibilities as the winning driver going to Akron.  The Quincy Breakfast Optimist Club gives each winning racer a minimum of $500 to be used toward the Akron week's expenses.  This does not cover the costs of the entire weekend.  Each racer is ultimately responsible for costs related to:

  • Lodging
  • Food
  • Travel to and from Akron
  • Any additional entrance fees needed for the accompanying adult and family members to all events during race week.

Each racer has to be accompanied by an adult during the entire race week in Akron, Ohio.

Akron is a lot of fun and a great opportunity for a family vacation - most families will utilize their vacation time to make such a trip.  Keep in mind, your car sponsors are in no way obligated to cover any of the above costs.  If you want additional information about Akron and participating in the Championship weekend, feel free to contact Chris Huseman, the All American Soap Box Derby or perhaps some of our past champions who have made the trip.

Going to Akron, Ohio is completely optional for the winners of each division.  If the first place winner chooses not to go to Akron, the invitation is extended to the second place winner and so on.
